Aircraft Cabin Detailing: A Consultation Checklist

Aircraft cabin detailing should start with a coordinated conversation, not a generic automotive cleaning package. The owner or operator, the detailer and the appropriate maintenance contact may each have information needed to define the work. This checklist is for planning a consultation; it is not a cleaning procedure or a substitute for the aircraft manufacturer’s current instructions.

Identify the aircraft and the responsible contacts

Provide the aircraft model, location and the person authorized to agree the service. Explain who controls hangar access and who will handle any maintenance-related questions. If several parties are involved, identify one contact for decisions so the scope does not change through informal instructions from different people.

Share the required access process and any site rules before a time is confirmed. A visit to an airfield may require coordination that is different from a vehicle appointment. Do not assume the detailer has permission to enter every area or move the aircraft.

Describe materials and known concerns

Make a list of the cabin surfaces that need attention, such as upholstery, carpet, leather and trim. Mention repaired areas, unusual materials, previous treatments and any finish that needs special consideration. Photographs can help define priorities, but they do not replace checking the relevant material and aircraft guidance.

New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority warns that inappropriate interior products or application methods can damage aircraft materials. That supports a careful, aircraft-specific compatibility discussion rather than transferring a household or automotive routine to the cabin. Ask how the agreed products and methods will be checked against the applicable instructions.

Define what the appointment includes

Separate ordinary appearance-care tasks from any removal, refitting, inspection or maintenance activity. The FAA has issued guidance about automotive detailing companies working on aircraft, including the possibility that cleaning preparation or follow-on work may involve maintenance requirements. The responsible operator and appropriately authorized personnel should determine those boundaries for the aircraft.

Ask for a written description of the areas included, the access required and any exclusions. If a stain may not be removable, agree that expectation before the work begins. Do not turn a cosmetic request into an instruction to dismantle or alter cabin components.

Agree the handover before scheduling

Confirm when access will be available, who will receive questions during the work and who will review completion. Discuss the condition in which the cabin should be handed over and how any unexpected issue will be reported. Avoid making flight-readiness assumptions from an appearance-care appointment.

For an initial conversation, explore aircraft detailing at 96 Auto Spa. Contact our Franklin team with the aircraft type, location and requested cabin scope, or use the booking form to request a discussion. Availability and the final service plan are confirmed individually.

Prepare a short list of cabin priorities for the consultation, with any exclusions clearly marked. Share it with the responsible operator contact as well as the detailer. Everyone should be working from the same description of the requested appearance care.
